Frank accounts from eyewitnesses — a former police officer who worked with “night butterflies,” a Soviet prostitute, and a catering worker with over a hundred romantic stories behind her — are intertwined with analysis from experts such as historian Lev Lurye, sociologist Elena Zdravomyslova, and sex blogger Arina Kholina.
